🚨 Training Spotlight: ATV Rescue Simulation 🚨Recently, Welsford Firefighters challenged themselves with a remote rescue training scenario simulating an ATV accident. In the scenario, a rider was thrown down an embankment, requiring firefighters to put many different skills into action.Using the principles of L.A.S.T. (Locate, Access, Stabilize, Transport), crews approached the incident step by step:✅ Locate – Dispatch provided GPS coordinates. Crews formulated a response plan and established a command post as close to the site as possible.✅ Access – A small first response team (Team 1) of medical first responders navigated to the patient location using GPS, rappelling, and medical gear. Once they reached the victim, they began their assessment and relayed details back via radio.✅ Stabilize – Based on Team 1’s report, Team 2 deployed with our ATV, RescueBoggan, ropes and belaying gear, and additional patient packaging equipment.✅ Transport – Working together, crews stabilized and prepared the patient for safe extraction, all while providing regular condition updates to simulated EMS personnel at the command post.To further enhance situational awareness, one of our advanced drone operators launched our drone to provide aerial overwatch and a spotlight from above. This technology gives command a critical view of the incident and helps guide crews operating in difficult terrain.👨‍🚒💪 Exercises like this push our members to work as a team and prepare for the real emergencies we may face in our community.We’re also proud to share that much of the specialized equipment used during this scenario was purchased through community fundraising—including our annual golf tournament and mulch sales.
